The WeatherVelo PRIME will be a three-wheeled scooter/moped with weather protection. At present, car drivers frustrated by congestion are likely to be deterred from two-wheeled alternatives by their inherent instability and lack of weather protection. The WeatherVelo PRIME aims to straddle this gap between scooters (or motorbikes) and cars.
The PRIME offers more power and speed than the MODE, as detailed below. The prototype PRIME features a pure electric drive system for simplicity, but further development would enable the inclusion of a hybrid electric-pedal drive system for healthy exercise and some range extension.
Photographs on this page are indicative only: please read the notes below.

Photograph above shows partly constructed prototype, with new roof design for the British market (will be coloured to match bodywork, as simulated below). Certain components omitted at time of these photos: windscreen, lights, seat padding, mirrors, handgrips, side pieces (for heavy rain). Currently, work in England is ongoing to create a new chassis for the roadgoing prototype, using recently developed British materials to save weight and ease ingress/egress.

Summary specification:
- specially developed chassis and floorpan, designed and manufactured in England (new: not shown in photos)
with front and rear suspension - glass-fibre bodywork ~ styled in Germany and customised for Britain
many colours available (bright colour recommended, to be eye-catching in busy traffic) - 100% electric drive
1.8kW motor with lithium-ion battery, giving speeds up to 28mph on the flat - luggage box ~ up to 136 litres capacity (depends on size of battery)
integrated, lockable - polycarbonate windscreen with electric wiper
wash-wipe system - front and rear lights, indicators
- convenient charging via onboard charger
from domestic socket or street charging-point

After manufacture but before use on the public road each vehicle for sale will be subjected to VOSA's Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval Inspection (equivalent to type approval), to ensure safety standards. If production is scaled up, type approval will apply.
The PRIME will be legally classified as a scooter/moped and must be insured as such. However, this is likely to cost considerably less than car insurance.
Being electric means no vehicle excise duty to pay (i.e. the "tax disc" is free) and exemption from London's congestion charge. Bus lanes in London may be used, where motorcycles are permitted (over 65 miles included in trial, see local signage). Drivers need a licence with category "p", which is included as standard on many car licences. Minimum age 16.

A convertible version with folding roof and auxiliary pedals is also available: the CabrioVelo. This model is aimed at customers who enjoy the wind in their hair, but with the option of full weather protection when needed. Available to order - further details on request, or see German language website www.cabriovelo.com. Please note that due to a different construction method and additional complexity, CabrioVelos are likely to cost more than rigid-roofed WeatherVelos.
